ELVDC Standard 'IS 16711 / 2017'

ISLANDS and AREAS of LIGHT – Infrastructure Development

Subject: Electricity – Off-grid ELVDC 48V power distribution

The Indian Standard  'IS 16711 / 2017' – a valuable paper to be followed
for the firsts Islands of Light (probable even in the early 'post Event era'), we are entitled to consider as an (already in place) standard  of
48 V ELVDC Distribution System

- Guidelines

The same may proper apply for any off-grid community...

Standard: Title IS 16711 / 2017 - "IS 16711 / 2017"

  1. A Review of the Power Distribution System in the
    Telecommunications Sector

"Telecommunication carriers in the United States, Japan, and Europe have developed guidelines for voltage drop limits in the
DC distribution system. The voltage drop limits were used in the wiring modeling. In Japan, the Indoor Wiring Specifications
(IWS) generally specifies drop of 2% or less for the main lines used for low-voltage wiring. In the European Telecommunications
Standards Institute (ETSI) standard, the drop is limited to +1V in the -48V wire. For economic reasons, however, the overall
voltage drops rate have, however, been specified to about less than 3% when power is supplied from a transformer, less than 5%
for long-cable wiring of 120 m or less, less than 6% for cable wiring of 200 metres or less, and about 7% or lesser for cable wiring
    of over 200 metres."

This technology uses complete DC solutions to remove AC to DC and DC to AC conversions. Removing the need of conversion helps in saving 30% to 40% of energy.

Solar DC will not only replace the
expensive, bulky and inefficient inverters but also save electricity bills adequately.
